Living overseas with my UK husband — do I file as single or married?

Hi,
I am a US citizen currently living in India with my British husband…yep, not making this up :) We married in the US at the end of 2002, but he has never lived there. This is my first year doing taxes without an accountant. I’m trying to e-file my taxes with TurboTax and am totally confused: should I file as “married” — in which case there is no Social Security or orther number to enter for my spouse, who has never lived in the US — or do I simply consider myself, for filing purposes, as “single” (which my accountant used to do)? Please help!

PS I am not concerned with the filing status for deductions, as I have no dependents or enough income to pay tax on.

What do I do? My son filed income taxes using myself and younger son as deductions without my permission?

I need this refund as I am homeless and my truck is tore up. I emailed him with no response. Tomorrow if i do not hear from him, I will call the real IRS.

Is there anyone who can anwser a question for me about taxes? Is there any self-employed people out there?

We did our taxes on the computer and we are both self employed and have lots of deductions. Even though we didnt pay taxes all year is there any way we could get $$$ back? I wonder if we did them wrong b/c its a good bit after all our deductions are enetered in. I did childcare and he is a commercial appliance repairman… SO CONFUSED!!!
Well, we have 2 children and after all of our expenses (toys, cleaning supp, cable, food for the kids) I made like $1 an hour or something crazy like that then, my hubbys expenses (mileage, tools and the like) he didnt make much either. My expenses actually almost come up to my pay for the year!!!! Crazy! We live frugally (obivously!) and I’m thinking earned income credit or something of the like. We have been saving 30% so if we have to pay we are prepared but the other person who subcontracts with my hubby is getting money back too so I guess we’ll see!!!! Tax man here we come!!!! :) Thanks guys!

What are some tax deductions for a computer game designer and 3D animator?

Is anything related to the business, or research for the business, deductible? Like computer games themselves, or action figures used as models for the animation?
When doing taxes, I can deduct “entertainment”, which is only 50% deductible. I know this would cover taking a colleague out for a show, but what about entertainment via DVDs and games? Are these just supplies of the business?

how do i figure meal allowance on my taxes?

i am doing my own taxes this year on turbo tax. my husband works for the railroad and is allowed a meal deduction but I have no idea how to figure it or anything and they do not offer help on that one.

undocumented charitable donation as a tax deduction?

what percentage of my income, can i write off as a donation with NO WRITTEN documentation of the donation. example: you just hand over $20 at church on Sunday. (I thought you had to have a canceled check or a receipt from the charity, but my friend says NO that you can automatically deduct a certain percentage of your income with NO proof that the donation was actually made.

Job search tax deductions?

Anyone with info on how you go about taking a tax deduction for job search costs? I have read that you can take such a deduction, but how much, what can you deduct? Gas mileage, cost of printing resumes, seminar costs, Kinko’s costs, paper costs, etc.? How should you keep track of these things? Receipts?

Why is there a deadline to contribute to a Roth IRA for 2005 of 04/17/06 if a Roth IRA is not tax deferred>

Traditional IRAs are tax deferred so you can deduct any contributions on your tax return. Roth IRAs are not tax deferred so no deduction is permitted.

1099B confusion regarding stock sale.?

I am doing my own taxes. I have stock thru payroll deduction. I sold a few shares in 2005 and am confused as to how to answer “date aquired”– and “cost”– Since I purchase them over time I do not know what to put in. Can someone please HELP me asap! Thank you so much!
I need to add that I do have my year end statement. I just am not certain what “cost” I put down, what it was at the time I sold it, or what it was when I first purchased in 1999?
