Where are these places you speak of? I live in a Maryland County where everything is free to Maryland residents including internet.

Ok, I grew up in small town Wisconsin, where library books were free, and now live in urban DC area where it is also free.

I think you are incorrect that fees are charged at public libraries.

Wow, that’s sad. I go to my local public county library all the time. They have posted every month how many patrons throughout the county have checked out items and it’s always in the thousands. If they charged an annual fee, I would stop going, and I’m sure a lot of other people in my county would too. I always thought of the library as a free public service.

Strange, my entire county has a household number of 13k and our library is free. Sounds like your local government is sticking it to you.

I’ve lived in many towns in my lifetime—small and large—and I have never had to pay a fee to check out books from the library.

If such a thing is occurring in your area, I recommend that you shift your focus from “Big Bird and LeVar Burton are wrong” to “Let’s put together a plan to solve this.” LeVar Burton is a paid actor, and working to solve the problem will be more effective than pointing fingers at an 8-foot-tall fictional yellow bird.
