I need to trace our already filed 2005 income tax refund. How do I go about it?

We filed our 2005 tax returns in April, 2006. We were due refunds from both State and Federal. We have had no response to either. How do we find out if our returns were ever received?

  1. For federal, go to http://www.irs.gov and you will find something like “where is my refund” link. You go there and enter necessary information and it will tell you the status. For state, there is a similar link if you visit the state’s site. Good luck.

Experience with my brothers and sisters and their children being rised by the ex’s and them not paying child support and getting behind and it came to the same thing. My sister lost a son that was trying to find her after years of being in foster care and now she doesn’t even know where he is buried.

I would check with the IRS to see if they ever rec’d your return, and if they did ask for a copy and ask why they did not send you a refund.
The same goes with the State. It seems a little odd that both of them have not responded. The IRS would definitely have notified you if they did not receive your return.
