Is this legal aren’t state taxes kept to pay unpaid medical bills.Did;t doctor claimed loss in taxes and insurance. Don’t know what original bill was, thought this bill was paid 14 years ago.

  1. Is this a lien placed on a vehichle title over a debt? Technically, it is legal. If you owe a medical bill, it can be persued legally. Once there is a judgement against you in court, interest can be added. The lien stays until it is satisfied. If you cannot prove that it was paid 14 years ago, then you are out of luck.

  2. Most states have a time limit (statute of limitations) on such debts. If the claimant has made no attempt to collect the debt within a certain length of time, then it becomes uncollectable. Check with your own attorney on what your rights are in this case. Don’t depend on the word of the other guy’s lawyer.

  3. check and make sure that the bill is actually your bill. do a little digging to find out what you actually did when you “paid” that bill. they can add interest to unpaid bills unfortunately. also, get a little legal advice just incase there are faulty records creating this hassle. good luck.

  4. It is legal. Possibly you could contact an agency that helps with paying bills. They set up payments even if it is a judgement, so you can make smaller payments according to what your income is. That way you are paying off the bill, helping your credit status. If the bill was actually paid off 14 years ago, that company should have reported it to the court. You could call the credit reporting companies, (experian, transunion, and equifax, tell them you paid that bill (your filing a decrepency report on your credit report) they in turn have to look into that descrepancy by calling the company that has the judgement to find out if it was paid or not, then they correct the credit report for you in 30 days and send you a copy of it. If it is paid, then pursue it and get your credit fixed. If you don’t, the judgement can be pulled from your paycheck monthly until it is paid off and that won’t be pleasant, the payments are usually high. Good luck.

Just from experience with refinancing homes and pulling clients credit reports. I advise them as to how to correct a credit report and who to call to help make payment arrangements to get bills paid off easier.
