How long are tax places required to keep your documents?

I never filed my 2003 Federal or State taxes and left them at the tax place (left all the W-2 forms) they should still have them shouldn’t they — Kinda nervouse about it

  1. 7 years….after which they and you are legally able to send to the shredder.

  2. in order to avoid an audit it is required to keep financial documents for a minimum of 7 years but i know that the owner of the tax service i go to still has his first documents and every one in between
