I am VA. resident. My wife has p/t va. & ny residency. what is most advantages way to file taxes?

I am trying to figure out if i should file a p/t resident for va & ny, or a non-resident for ny (for my wife) & joint va. & federal.

    Find out which state collect less taxes first and then move to that state or file 50/50?
