Can child support take my federal tax return?

I currently owe past due child support and my state taxes have gotten taken for child support. I am wondering if they can also take my federal taxes and if so, is there a certain amount they are only alowed to take or can they take as much as there is owed?

  3. They will take everything you get back if the support amount you owe is equal to or higher than you amount you are expecting on your return. It might be different in every state, that I’m not sure about.
