I work in NY, live in NJ. How to file state Tax return?

File a non resident return in New York and a resident return in New Jersey. Your New York source income will be taxed but you will get a credit for taxes paid in New York on your New Jersey return.
It depends on where your employer sent your state withholding. If they withheld it in NJ you just file in NJ and everything should be ok.
If they withheld NY, you will need to get a refund of your NY state income tax and pay NJ. You should have your employer update your residence in that case.
