No, you have to file both state returns, report any payments or credits. I use Turbo Tax personally, they ask all the questions for you. You only fill in the blanks. Look on the irs website for more specific instructions as well as the state’s website for Illinois and Arizona. They will give you all of your answers.

You will file a single federal return and 2 state returns. States have a provision in the tax code for part-year residents. It’s pretty straightforward, but if it gets confusing, have a professional assist you or use Turbo Tax or some other software..
